Hello dear reader, I hope you are doing well!

In this very short post, I want to showcase my opinion regarding Google’s latest language model: Language Model for Dialogue Applications or LaMDA.

But before we start, a few Machine Learning goodies:

Last week, in this Medium article Blake Lemoine, an ex-Google software engineer who for the past months had been working on the tests for this huge language model (although smaller than GPT3 and other new models), published a dialogue with it, where it looks like it is in fact, sentient.

Throughout the conversation, the ‘machine’ speaks about its feelings, desires, and previous experiences, just like if it was human.

Many non-critical readers (mostly belonging to the general public, not versed in the AI domain), have marveled at the feat and even become scared that this would be some sort of SkyNet predecessor.
