Probability, statistics, all familiar names to the Data Scientist. But if you had to explain what each of them is, would you be able to do it precisely?

If you’re confident you can, then skip this post, but if not keep reading and learn once and for all what the difference between statistics and probability is.

The start: Data

At the start there was Data. Nothing else. Only vast and vast amounts of data.

As society evolved, people starting asking themselves and each other questions, questions, that as time went by, became more and more complex.

They needed tools to answer these questions. One of these tools was Data. But what else?

What weapons do we have in our arsenal to turn this data into the answers to our questions?

You guessed it right: statistics and probability.

Progress: Probability and Statistics

We’re not going to talk about their origins or anything like that here, the focus of this article is to understand what each of them does and how they are different.

So continuing with our story, we have data, questions, and we want answers. What can we do?
